NBI
agents seized P2.3M Fake Sportswear in Binondo
Agents of the
National Bureau of
Investigation (NBI) seized
P2.3 million worth of fake sportswear following a series of raids
conducted in Binondo, Manila, the other day.
The NBI Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) under
lawyer Jose Justo Yap yesterday disclosed the raids stemmed from
a complaint lodged by representatives of "Billabong" products in the
country.
Raided were the Naty's Lingerie Fashion Haus of Naty and Luis
Chua and Regie Carbajosa's two retail outlets located at Stalls 14 and
15 of Sogo Plaza, 850 Ilaya St., Binondo.
Also raided were two stockrooms of Carbajosa located on the fourth
floor of the Sogo Plaza.
Yap said his agents seized 1,581 counterfeit Billabong caps from the
four establishments.
He added the NBI agents placed the establishments under surveillance
operations and conducted test buys to confirm the evidence gathered
through
market research firm Orion Support Inc. (OSI).
He said the OSI and NBI simultaneously conducted several investigative
operations to determine the illicit activities of the establishments.
After confirming the distribution and sale of the fake Billabong
products,
the NBI obtained corresponding search warrants from Manila Regional
Trial Court Branch 24 Judge Antonio Eugenio Jr.
Yap
said charges of unfair competition were
lodged against the owners of
the raided
establishments.
